What’s Trending in Flooring?
At Quinn’s home improvement, we are fortunate to be part of a number of home remodeling projects and one of the most important decisions clients make is the material, color, and style they would like to use for new flooring. If you think about it; flooring is more than just a foundation for your home; it's a canvas that sets the tone for your entire interior design. As the world of design continues to evolve, so do flooring trends. In this post, we'll dive into the most sought-after flooring trends that customers are asking for.
Let’s start with flooring
materials -
1. Luxurious Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Tile (LVT) : Luxury Vinyl
Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) have gained popularity due to their
ability to emulate the look of natural materials without the high maintenance.
These durable and affordable options are available in a range of finishes, from
rich hardwood to chic stone, making them versatile choices for any room. LVP/LVT are made of a composite material that
is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and easy to clean.
2. Wide Plank Hardwood: Wide plank hardwood floors are the definitive
example of timeless elegance. The current
trend leans toward lighter wood finishes, bringing an airy and sophisticated
touch to spaces. The combination of wide planks and softer tones creates an
illusion of larger spaces, making it perfect for both cozy homes and spacious
areas.
3. Luxury Waterproof Laminate: Laminate has been around for
quite a while and has lost some of its appeal over the years but is still
considered and option. Laminate tends to
be a more economical alternative flooring compared to the other materials
mentioned. I should point out that the
term “waterproof” should be scrutinized carefully. I recommend reading the manufacturers “fine
print” when considering laminate in areas such as kitchens and bathrooms.
4. Contemporary Concrete: Polished concrete floors have surged
in popularity, especially in modern and industrial-style interiors. The sleek,
minimalist appearance of concrete lends itself well to various color palettes
and complements bold furnishings. Plus, its low maintenance requirements make
it a practical choice for busy households.
5. The Allure of Tiles: Tiles continue to captivate with their
versatility and aesthetic appeal. Large-format porcelain and ceramic tiles are
in vogue, offering everything from marble-like elegance to artistic geometric
patterns. These tiles create eye-catching focal points in both residential and
commercial spaces.
6. Sustainable Flooring: With environmental concerns growing, eco-friendly
flooring options like bamboo, cork, and reclaimed wood are gaining traction. There
are economical varieties of both bamboo and cork. Bamboo is considered a hard and durable
product and cork is a sustainable flooring material that is known for
its comfort and noise-absorbing properties. Cork is available in a variety of
colors and styles and is a good choice for bedrooms, living rooms, and offices.
Color Trends -
1. Neutral Tones: Shades of beige, gray, and greige remain
popular as they provide a versatile backdrop for various design styles.
2. Dark and Moody: Dark-colored flooring, such as deep browns
and blacks, can add drama and contrast to a space.
3. Blonde Wood: Lighter wood tones, often associated with
Scandinavian design, are being embraced for their warm and airy feel and they
tend to make a small space appear larger.
Design Styles -
1. Minimalist: Clean lines, neutral colors, and sleek materials
like concrete or LVP/LVT are popular choices in minimalist spaces.
2. Rustic/Farmhouse: Wide plank hardwood, distressed wood, and
vintage-inspired tiles contribute to the cozy and rustic atmosphere of
farmhouse-style interiors.
3. Modern Industrial: Polished concrete floors, exposed
materials, and metal accents create an industrial vibe.
4. Traditional: Classic hardwood floors in warm tones complement
traditional interiors.
Layout –
1. Patterns That Wow: Patterned flooring has reemerged as a trendsetter. Herringbone, chevron, and Moroccan-inspired designs inject personality and uniqueness into spaces. Whether you're seeking a subtle statement or an energetic burst of creativity, patterned flooring has you covered.
2. Traditional Staggered: If you want a traditional look, staggered is the way to go. This pattern has been the mainstay for a long time.
3. Stacked: this is becoming more common in tile installations. Considered a cleaner and more modern look to staggering tiles. Not recommended for other flooring because it can affect the structural support of floating type installations including LVP, wood, and laminate.
When choosing a flooring trend, keep practical considerations in mind. Think about factors such as durability, maintenance, comfort, and lifestyle compatibility. The perfect flooring should not only align with your design vision but also withstand the test of time.
